Recent Reading Escapes

In recent years, as work has become more intense, as has life, I have found books are almost as transformative for me as travel can be.  Plowing through books is a great way to have a bit of respite, instead of the dreaded doom scroll.  After a busy few months, I've finally had some time to get lost in a few more books. While this list is a bit longer than usual (as I have not done this in awhile), each one offered a wide range of experiences, from welcome escapes to compelling stories that simply held my attention. Here are the books that have recently captured my attention.

  1. Don’t be a tourist in Paris by Vanessa Grall - A delightful revisit to this book as I am prepping for a trip, offering an insider’s perspective on its hidden corners and quiet charm.

  2. Madly, Deeply by Alan Rickman – An intimate glimpse into the brilliant mind of a man who was as complex and insightful as the characters he played.

  3. Woman on Fire by Lisa Barr – A compelling story that ignited my imagination from the very first page and kept me guessing until the last.  If you like suspense mixed with a bit of world war II history, this is for you!

  4. The Vanishing Half by Brit Bennett– A profound and moving exploration of identity and the enduring, sometimes painful, bonds of family.

  5. The Summer Girl by Elle Kennedy – an easy read for …. Summer!

  6. Malibu Rising by Taylor Jenkins Reid – Taylor Jenkins Reid proves once again that she is a master storyteller, weaving a captivating tale of fame, family, and the secrets we keep.

  7. Hot Girl Summer by Sophie Gravia – A lighthearted and charming rom-com type of read

  8. Becoming by Michelle Obama – Michelle Obama is a truly exquisite writer. Her memoir is a powerful, heartfelt journey that left me feeling both inspired and deeply moved.  I equally shed tears, and smiled throughout her words.

  9. The Pumpkin Spice Café  by Laurie Gilmore- A cozy, comforting read that felt super cozy for fall, think Gilmore girls!

  10. Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan– Guilty as I saw the film first, but I loved this book – already ordered the 2nd in the series.  I am absolutely fascinated by this group of characters.

  11. In Five Years by Rebecca Serle – My first Rebecca Serle book.  A captivating read that had me interested until the last page.

  12. The Woman In Me By Britney Spears –  A must-read for anyone who grew up with Britney Spears. An honest and compelling look behind the curtain of a global superstar.

  13. Welcome to the Real World by Lauren Berger – Some excellent and thoughtful advice for navigating the early days of a career.

  14. Side Hustle in Progress by Elizabeth Ogabi– A great resource for anyone looking to build a career on their own terms.

  15. How to Be Parisian Wherever You Are by Anne Berest, Audrey Diwan, Caroline de Mairgret, and Sophie Mas - A chic guide to French style and a welcome peek into the Parisian mindset.  Really love her perspective

  16. Funny Story by Emily Henry– Another fun and witty book by Emily Henry, perfect for a little escapism.

  17. Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid -  She has done it again. This book follows the comeback of Soto, looking to return to the pro tennis tour.  Heartbreaking and inspiring all in one.
