Must Try Foods in Budapest

Must Try Foods in Budapest

As I have said previously, I truly didn't know what to expect when visiting Budapest.  But when it came to food, I was pleasantly surprised with everything I ate and drank in this city.  After some light research I learned how Budapest was a hub for beer, craft, IPAs and just generally Hungarian beer.  I also realized, they are so partial to comfort food.  As comfort food enthusiast, I said, yes please.  Here are some of the thing I think you should try when you go to Budapest...

Goulash | Hello to one of their best known dishes, and truly what hits the spot on a cold day.

Langos | What is described more as a street food snack.  As there are toppings such as sour cream and cheese, this one can be a bit heavy and a little goes a long way!

Lecso | Another stew like, warm, comforting meal

Paprika Chicken | Another super classic dish, (paprika is added to a lot of the food here), normally served with nokedi, a sort of egg noodle.

Sausage (Kolbasz) | you can find them added in stews, or in many variations throughout Hungary

Chimney Cake | Properly known as Kurtoskalacs, a super delicious sweet treat.  A dough that the form into a cylinder and coated in butter, cinnamon and sugar (or you can add variations of flavors) You will find little stand selling these along the streets.

Wine | Hungary shocked me with the assortment of wine the country produces, in the most amazing way possible.  Bonus, check out my favorite wine bar here!

Beer | Important to know that the average beer might be a bit darker here, or at least that’s what I found.  A very exciting and innovative beer scene throughout this city and completely worth trying some new beers!

What other foods should we try?
